The Baltic Sea Route - The Western Loop

Experience the price winning cycling route in Sønderjylland, on Fyn and around the Little Belt. This package brings you along the western loop of the Baltic Sea Route. The trip is approx. 330 kilometers.

Along the way you will stay in hotels in or near charming market towns. The stages are never longer than you have time to enjoy the nature and attractions this part of Denmark has to offer, either along the way or once you have reached your hotel.
Total price from: DKK 6375,- per person in a shared double room. The package is available between April 1st and September 30th 2019.

Programme:
Day 1:
Arrival in Sønderborg, Sønderjylland and check-in at Hotel Sønderborg Strand
Spend the day exploring Sønderborg. Tip: Sønderborg Castle is located across the street from the hotel and the museum at the castle is well worth a visit.

Day 2:
Check-out and hand in your luggage at the reception. The carrier will deliver your luggage to the luggage box in Fynshav.
Cycle from Sønderborg to Fynshav (approx. 30 km.)
Ferry Fynshav – Søby: Departure at 2.20 PM
Along the way on the island of Ærø there are plenty of attractions that tempt you to visit them. The ferry doesn’t depart Ærøskøbing until late in the afternoon, so you have plenty of time to explore.
If you feel like extending your stage with approx. 20 km., we recommend a detour of about 10 km. to Voderup Klint (Cliff), where long step-shaped terraces that link the sea with the elevated area of the island like giant steps.
If you prefer to stick closer to the Baltic Sea Route we recommend, that you visit Søbygaard which is an old manor house built in 1580 by Duke Hans the Younger.

Day 3
Check-out and hand in your luggage at the reception. The carrier will deliver your luggage to your hotel in Assens.
Cycle from Svendborg to Assens (approx. 70 km)
The trip from Svendborg moves along the coast through Rantzausminde (where you can shop) and past Lehnskov, where you can enjoy the beach and the beautiful view towards the islands of Tåsinde, Skarø, Hjortø and Drejø – just some of the islands of the Archipelago. Continue towards Vester Åby. Here, you have a unique opportunity to visit the chocolate coloured building along the road – home of the Konnerup chocolate factory.
In Faaborg it is obvious to spend some town in the old part of town. On selected days you even have the opportunity to visit the top of the church tower from which you have a splendid view.

Day 4:
Check-out and hand in your luggage at the reception. The carrier will deliver your luggage to your hotel in Middelfart.
Cycle from Assens to Middelfart (approx. 50 km).
The trip from Assens to Middelfart is incredibly beautiful! Take your time, enjoy the scenery and perhaps even go for a swim at one of the beaches you pass along the way.
Once you have arrived in Middelfart you have several opportunities for entertainment. Have you ever heard of Bridgewalking? From Middelfart you can cross the Little Belt on top the Old Little Belt Bridge – remember to buy tickets in advance.
Do you prefer to keep both feet on the ground? Then we recommend visiting CLAY – the Danish Ceramics Museum, which is close to your accommodation.

Day 5:
Check-out and hand in your luggage at the reception. The carrier will deliver your luggage to the hotel in Christiansfeld.
Cycle from Middelfart to Christiansfeld (approx. 60 km)
When riding from Middelfart to Christiansfeld you shop make a stop at the Fredericia Ramparts. The ramparts are incredibly well-preserved and gives you a unique glimpse into a Danish defence system from the 18th and 19th Centuries.
Christiansfeld has a unique history unlike any other in Denmark. The town was founded in 1773 by the Moravian Church, which still has about 300 members in the town. In 2015 Christiansfeld was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Day 6:
Check-out and hand in your luggage at the reception. The carrier will deliver your luggage to the hotel in Aabenraa.
Cycle from Christiansfeld to Aabenraa (approx. 50 km)
Along the way from Christiansfeld to Aabenraa it is obvious to take a break in Haderslev. Visit the town’s cathedral, where the antependia, which HM the Queen of Denmark designed for the church, are displayed. If the weather is right then you should take the opportunity to enjoy your packed lunch in Damparken, which is a green oasis in the middle of town.

Day 7:
Check-out and hand in your luggage at the reception. The carrier will deliver your luggage to the hotel in Sønderborg
Cycle from Aabenraa to Sønderborg (approx. 60 km)
About halfway between Aabenraa and Sønderborg you meet the intersection with Fjordvejen, which runs along Flensborg Fjord. Here, you will also finde Annies Kiosk, which is a perfect place to enjoy a cold beverage with a view of the Fjord and Germany on the opposite side of the water. A bit further east you arrive in Gråsten, where you can take a quick detour through the castle park. The castle itself is closed to the public, but if the royal family are not present, you are welcome to take a walk through the gardens and park.
Once you are pack in Sønderborg you can pick up your luggage at the hotel, where you spent the first night.

Practical info:
Your luggage must be placed in the reception no later than 9 AM. Please remember to add name tags. Each guest may bring one piece of luggage weighing no more than 20 kilos. The luggage will be at your next hotel no later than 4 PM.
When sailing you must transport your luggage yourself. At each harbour you find a luggage box, where you can find your bag. Bring it with you on the ferry and after arrival in the new port, you place your bag in the luggage box. Codes for the luggage boxes will be given to you along with your welcome package.
