Experience the 84-km long Gendarme Path with your four-legged friend. In this package deal, we’ve found overnight accommodation at which your dog is also welcome, thus enabling you to enjoy the delights of one of the country’s most beautiful hiking routes together.
Whatever the season – summer, winter, autumn or spring – the Gendarme Path offers beautiful natural attractions, with each section of the path having its own identity and story to tell. In fact, the path is divided into 5 stages: Mountain stage, Brick stage, Crow stage, Beach stage and Mill stage. Regardless of whether history, countryside or wildlife is your thing, the route running along Flensburg Fjord has something to offer everyone.
The price of this trip starts at DKK 4077.50 per person and includes personal and baggage transfer, 4 nights in a shared double room with up to two dogs in the room.
Each stage of the route has a length of between 17 and 23 km per day, with plenty of opportunities to take a break and enjoy the attractive trail. Remember to take a towel with you for you and your four-legged friend – if the weather’s good, the fjord is perfect for a refreshing dip.
On arrival in Sønderborg, you’ll be put up at Hotel 6400, which is a relatively new hotel situated not far from the Gendarme Path. The hotel is also within walking distance of the town of Sønderborg, where you can enjoy your evening meal. At the hotel you’ll receive a welcome package, which contains a map and a guidebook featuring details of the Gendarme Path.
This package deal includes personal transport every day, thus ensuring that the overnight accommodation you use welcomes dogs. You’ll be with a driver who’s happy to take your dog and who’s very familiar with the Gendarme Path and the region in general. If you have a dog safety harness, you’re welcome to take it with you in the vehicle. In addition to personal transport, your luggage will be ferried between the places at which you’ll be staying. On the final day, you’ll be picked up in Padborg and brought back to Hotel 6400, where your car and luggage will be waiting. You can also choose to book an extra night at Hotel 6400 after the last day of hiking.
Evening meals are not included in this package. In Sønderborg, however, there are lots of places to eat in town. When staying at Danhostel Flensborg Fjord, you can eat at Benniksgaard Hotel (please note that dogs are not allowed in the restaurant) or the local pizzeria. You can also shop for food at the Ulsnæs centre in Gråsten, which is on the route.
