Mini hiking break at the Gendarme path

In partnership with Hotel Sønderborg Strand, we’re giving you the opportunity to experience the Gendarme Path for a day, followed by a 2-course dinner and overnight stay at this attractive hotel facing directly onto the beach and close to the historic surroundings of Sønderborg.

It’s no surprise that the Gendarme Path is a popular hiking route. The path meanders along the banks of the fjord, and boasts a unique history and a rich variety of flora and fauna. On this mini-break you have the opportunity to experience a section of this attractive path, in addition to being able to treat yourselves to a 2-course dinner, overnight stay and breakfast buffet at Hotel Sønderborg Strand. The hotel is situated immediately adjacent to the Gendarme Path, whilst attractions such as Sønderborg Castle and the town centre are just a short distance away.
You arrive at the hotel in the morning and leave your baggage at reception. You’ll then be picked up by a driver who’ll drive you out to a spot of your choice on the Gendarme Path, after which you can walk back to Sønderborg and the hotel.
You can, for example, choose to be driven out past Dybbøl, where you can visit the historic Dybbøl banks and see Dybbøl Mill – Denmark’s national symbol – on your hike back to Sønderborg. The History Centre is open on Saturdays and Sundays in November, February and March, as well as on the last 3 weekends of January and throughout week 7 during the school winter holiday. (Saturdays at 1.00 pm and Sundays at 11.00 am). Another option is to be driven to the town of Skovby. On your return journey to Sønderborg you’ll pass close by Vibæk watermill which was built in 1756, and well worth a visit. (Note that the watermill is not staffed outside the high season).
On your arrival back at the hotel you’ll receive your room key.

In the evening a 2-course dinner will be served based on the chef’s choice of menu. After a good night’s sleep in a shared double room you can enjoy the extensive breakfast buffet whilst enjoying great views of the water.

Included in the price of DKK 749 per person in shared double room:
1 night in standard room
2-course dinner based on the chef’s choice of menu
1 breakfast buffet
Transport to your destination of choice on the Gendarme Path

Additional purchases: Admission to History Centre 1864. The History Centre is open on Saturdays and Sundays in November, February and March, as well as on the last 3 weekends of January and throughout week 7. (Saturdays at 1.00 pm and Sundays at 11.00 am). Note that the doors to the tour close at precisely 1.00 pm and 11.00 am respectively on these days.
