Hotels | In the marshes lies the idyllic town of Møgeltønder, where ducks walk across the street at daytime and old lanterns gently light up the night. Schackenborg Slotskro is situated in this fairytale and welcomes you with a gourmet restaurant and 25 unique rooms.
Schackenborg Slotskro is situated on the beautiful street “Slotsgaden” and has been privileged since 1687. The main building houses the reception, the restaurant and a few rooms and has in addition a large and cozy garden where one can enjoy drinks, lunch or dinner during the summer. The other rooms are all situated in three adjacent and listed houses with bar windows and access to a garden. All rooms have their own on-suite bathroom (most of them with a bathtub) and are all individually decorated – named after and inspired by Danish castles and manors.
The single rooms are charming and spacious. The cozy standard double rooms are intended for 2 persons and lie ind the three listed buildings facing the lime tree flanked Slotsgaden. Superior double rooms offer more space (some with room for an extra bed) and also the possibility of a view of the castle Schackenborg Slot, de red roofs in Møgeltønder or the city life along the Slotsgaden. In a few selected rooms it is allowed to bring your dog (at an extra charge and only upon request).
Restaurant Schack has since 2006, where the leaseholder Henning Kohl entered, welcomed its guests with a scandinavian cuisine with a french twist and works the entire time to elevate the level of food quality to a gastronomic experience. Emphasis is put on simplicity, taste and care, where amongst other elements some of the farm and natural produce of the grounds of Schackenborg Castle are used. Schackenborg Slotskro is equal to a peaceful and relaxing stay and is a good starting point for excursions in the southern part of Denmark as well as trips across the border to Germany.
Within a short distance you can visit Gallehus where the goldens horns where found, the castle riun of Trøjborg, a lot of galleries and museums, gorgeous nature experiences like black sun, seal safari, oyster tours, horseback riding, wide sandy beaches, golf and angling. The boroughs of Tønder and Ribe, which both are worth a visit at christmas time, offer old crooked houses, winding streets and a good local city life, while larger cities like Esbjerg, Kolding, Haderslev, Aabenraa and Sønderborg are perfect for strolling and oozing down their long shopping streets.
